 Autobuff

Hello all,
Some players have questioned the permission of autobuffs on the server, and I couldn't really figure out why they are included.

Autobuffs are certainly effective, but I'm not sure that they are fun. They basically enable buffing in combat as supposed to buffing for teamplay. Allocating buffs properly rewards the better commanders, and keeps them busy in the later stages of the game when all tech is up.

Nobody likes to be block elec'd, or healed against repeatedly. We live with it but it's still kind of lame.

Finally, autobuff enables some players to steal resources from their team, especially since the savage client doesn't allow turning off buffs for individuals. I've seen some players push past 100 selfbuffs.

To summarize, I think disabling autobuffs could make savage both more competitive and more fun.

What are your thoughts?

if something like that would ever happen at least 80% will complain for sure.

There is a large group wanting Self buffs on, I listened to them and turned them on. If you can figure out something the largest amount of players is happy with, let me know Wink

jazz, the main problem is that most comns are not able to buff their players, the situation in the game now is that there are not enough good comns, therefore the comns that are being elected, are okish, but not buff wise.
however, on cws, buffs are off.
anyway, a comn that really wants a player to stop wasting buffs can do it, like making auto buffs for officers only, and actually, i think he even can close it for a specific player (like he can close gold for a specific player)

These are some great responses and I'm fairly convinced in favor of the status quo. Another point is I've been seeing some strong autobuff gameplay and I realize an element of skill is added to the game with which players can do special things for their team.

That being said, I'm unsure how implementable this is but it would be cool if autobuff was a votable option like world and mod, maybe it could be done with a script and message votes.

i'm not into to make selfbuffs a mod/world vote thingy.

Although sas is right with the fact that most comms can't buff properly ( includes me aswell ). But i think the reason most comms can't buff properly is the fact that too many people ask for buffs and they are forced to buff to push instead of do their other jobs, and that is the reason why auto buffs are up for almost anyone.

I see what you mean precious, but when autobuff is off, part of the comm's job is buffing. In this sense, buffing isn't stopping the comm from doing his job.

The point of the vote thing would be that when comms aren't buffing or the players are tired of autobuff, the setting can be toggled.
