 NightFox Ref App

Hello, my in-game name is NightFox, my real life name is Adam, and i am 24 (25 on jan. 13th). I live in the USA (waits for the volley of insults), but i have been playing in the EU serve for years. I started playing savage back when it required money (I still have the disc with box and booklet). I switched from USA server to EU serve because i respected the EU community more for their cmpetitive play and friendlier player base.

I would like to apply to become a ref for several reason. My main reason is because this is one of my favorite games and I believe it has the potential to regain its popularity. That being said, savage by design has many flaws with the mix of RTS and first person shooter styles. It is a game that requires constant attention from refs to ensure the gameplay is fair and fun for everyone. It has been a long struggle for savage to keep the exploiters and flames at bay. I think i could help monitor matches due to my activity, clam manner, knowledge of the rules, and ability to think practically.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerly,
NightFox

Refs don't vote, they just put in a good/bad word to Skuggi/Groentjuh.

My one issue is your activity, which peeks then dies (from what I've seen). Maybe being a ref this will no longer happen, who knows.

However you seem to have good, educated judgement:-

Wow what a thread this has become. I feel like i should weigh in on some of what has been said since i do play both EU and USA servers about the same amount of time. First I feel the thread is getting away from the real point which was the fact that toxic was slayed and kicked for buffing. Before you go to the argument of toxic healing 2 times vs a nomad and the buff wasting argument just wait a bit to read my comment.I have seen toxic's game play in both EU and USA and i agree that it is hard to believe that he healed 2 times jsut to farm 1 nomad seeing as in eu (as i do command in both servers) Toxic is constantly requesting heal buffs for saccing shield. With my opinion out of the way about toxic's intent with heal buffs, I can say that slaying someone and then kickign them for constantly using heal buffs on the USA server is a silly abuse of ref power. The whole USA server argument about having auto buffs is to allow the players to USE THE BUFFS for whatever they see fit. Now whether that was to kill a nomad with a pred for the sake of farming or saccing a shield makes no difference. He was using the buff for what it was intended for. TO HEAL HIMSELF and the USA server has given him that right with auto buff. If you want some regualtion on what the buffs are used for then don;t make them AUTO for players to choose give the responsibility to the commander and if the commander decides to heal a player 2 times vs a nomad and you dont like it then GET RID OF THE BUFF portion of the game. I can understand the the fustration of breew's side as I am sure all of us have been on the receving end of 2 mag buffs or a mag and then a elec buff for no reason other than they were availablwe and the player (IN USA SEVER) is given the ability to use buffs as they see fit. the fact that bree is being seen as a victim is simply comical as having ref ability does not mean you get to use it for your own personal revenge tool. And the fact that others are backing him up is equally as comical.

USA server ref/admins have defended teh auto buff until they were blue in the face and will continue to defend the right to use auto buffs in USA server, but will bee the first to complain about a "BUFF WHORE". I have seen buff pools sit at 200 for both sides in spectator in a game for 20 minutes at time, and then once a player decides to start using them just because it is available its a big deal. Its pretty simple bree admitted he abused his ref powers and admited he will continue to abuse them is that not evidence enough to say he should not have ref?

And lastly. What does taking comm position to ensure a server does not "die out" have to do with reffing? Could you not take a comm position without ref abilties? How did toxic ruin the server considering he only did this to you and you were upset? Did other players rally together and say they were goign to leave because you were buffed against unjustly? and i believe you could continue taking comm positions with odds stacked against you jsut for the sake of keeping the server running without any ref abilities. Could the fact that you abuse your ref abilties possibly hurt the server some tiems?

Well thast all I got for this discussion. I'm at work doing nothing productive Razz

Just remember Groentjuh referees aren't as trigger happy with ref commands as US referees, nor do we mute/kick as much because they said you're a nob, once.

Goodluck, looking forward to seeing you as a referee imo.

Nice application. Allow me and Groentjuh some time to discuss it with the other refs and I'll try to get back to you soon.

It has happened in the past and after NSL 4 my laptop's hardrive crashed and took some time to repair/find the funds to get it running again. However it is a valid point that there are times when I must go inactive for a bit due to real life activites. I do try to be as active as possible and as a ref I will have a reason to sit in spectator when doing something else on my computer.

Thank you, everyone, for taking the time to respond and give feedback. Whether I am selected as a ref or not this has felt like a very professional proccess.

So you were never living in EU? I always thought you're a EU player who later moved to USA.

Sorry Gridfon, but no I have never lived in EU. I started on USA and played in the USA community for a couple years and moved over to EU server and occasionally i play USA server late at night (my time) when USA server gets busy and EU dies down.
